Description

We present a collection of articles that connect two great world revolutionary movements, the Russian Revolution and the Indian anti-colonial struggle. The articles are not meant to be academic publications and should not be read as such. Rather, they are refl ections of the thinking and practice of the leadership of the Communist Party of India, how it was infl uenced by the ideas of the Russian Revolution and at the same time, had to adapt to local conditions in its struggle against British rule in India. In many of the articles, we have added boxes highlighting one particular concept or fi gure mentioned. We have divided the book into three parts. The fi rst part gives a theoretical framework to the understanding of the Russian Revolution and the anti-colonial struggle. The second part covers the pre-independence period of the relationship between the free-dom struggle and the Russian Revolution. The third part is on the post-independence period and the relationship between independent India and the Soviet Union. Some of the articles also cover world situation after dismantling of Soviet Union.
