The work is an in-depth study of all the sectors of Economy of Bikaner state during 1746 to 1828 AD conducted on the basis of the contemporary archival sources available in the Rajasthan State Archives, Bikaner apart of, the other relevant source material. It examines thoroughly, the implications upon the desert economy of the Bikaner state of the absence of the Imperial Mughal Protection. Interestingly, it also attempts to thresh out the changes and continuities in the economy of Mughal successive state of Bikaner. The well researched date and facts of the economy from the state’s records would help increasing the understanding the subject and would throw new light on the debate in vogue that the Post- Mughal- eta in successive states of Rajputana was ‘The Dark Age’. The work encompasses newer approach and interpretations of the data and facts as well as new trends of history which emerged out in the contemporary period.

Kanti Lal Mathur served as Professor and Head, Department of History, Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He is a well known scholar studying the socio-economic history of medieval Rajputana. Numerous research papers in the national and reputed journals have been published in to his credit pertaining to the social and economic history of medieval period. He has a keen interest in the contemporary archival source material of the erstwhile states of Rajputana which have been very scarcely utilized. He is member of many Academic and Professional bodies. Presently, he is Senior Academic Fellow, Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi.
