Description

Jharkhand, the land of forests, is also by far the richest in terms of mineral resources. The region has a long history of struggles, against British imperialism, and later for an Adivasi State. With the emergence of a truncated ‘Jharkhand’, the industrial capital, particularly mining, has ravaged the land and her peoples. Both the central and state governments have actively colluded with these mining companies. There is widespread anger with the devastation of lives and the environment. Resistance in many areas against mining companies taking over the land has succeeded in stalling mining in some places. But in some other places, the companies have been successful in ‘managing’ and submerging the voices of dissent.
